How to generate a CSR in IIS 7 (Internet Information Services 7)

Follow these instructions before enrolling for your SSL247 certificate

Click Start, then Administrative Tools, then Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

1. Click on the server name.
2. From the middle menu, double-click the "Server Certificates" button in the "Security" section (scroll down).

   
   
   
   
   

3. Next, click the "Actions" menu (right), and click "Create Certificate Request." This opens the Request Certificate wizard.

   
   
   
   
   

4. In the "Distinguished Name Properties" window, enter the information as below.
   
   Common Name – must match the URL you plan to secure exactly – is usually your fully-qualified domain name, e.g., www.ssl247.co.uk or mail.ssl247.co.uk). Remember the www. Is important – include it if you want to secure https://www.yoursite.com & exclude it if you want to secure https://yoursite.com
   
   Organisation - The legal (officially registered) name of your organization/company include Inc., LLP., Pvt, Plc. Ltd. SARL., etc
   
   Organisational unit unit - The name of your department within the organisation (this is often "IT," "Web," or is just left blank).
   
   City/locality - The city or town in which your organisation is located.
   
   State/province - The state in which your organisation is located.
   
   Country - Country. click here for the official list of ISO country codes for this field.

   
   
   
   
   

5. Click Next
6. In the "Cryptographic Service Provider Properties" window, leave both settings at their defaults (Microsoft RSA SChannel and 1024) and then click next.

   
   
   
   
   

7. Enter a filename for your CSR file.

   Remember the filename that you choose and the location to which you save it. You will need to open this file as a text file and copy the entire body of it (including the -----Begin and -----End Certificate Request----- tags) into the online order form when asked.

Important: After creating your CSR, a "pending request" will be created on your server. Do not delete the pending request, because it will be needed to install your certificate.

If you delete your pending request your new certificate will not work!

You are now ready to submit your CSR for the certificate you wish to install:
