What are organisationally validated (OV) SSL certificates?
These SSL certificates involve checks into your company to asses its legitimacy and confirm identity. They enable – for instance – your company name to be embedded in your site seal, so enhance trust with your web visitors. OV certificates sit above ‘domain validated’ certificates, and below ‘extended validation certificates’ (See our validation page for more info on how these differ).

The biggest differentiator (other than price) between the above certificates is SGC. SGC - server gated cryptography – or step-up encryption, "enhances" SSL technology to deliver strong (128-bit) encryption during an internet browsing session with older legacy Microsoft browsers (version 4.723612.1713 and above), without SGC these older browsers are forced to connect using weak 40 bit encryption.
SGC therefore is considered to be more trusted and provide stronger encryption than non-SGC certificates.
