Another year, another new standard: From april 1st 2015, all certificates issued will have a maximum validity of 39 months
On 2013, 2048-bit became the new standard for key length in SSL certificates. This year, on top of some major bugs, malware and other critical vulnerabilities, we saw the transition from SHA-1 to SHA-2 hash algorithm, as well as the deprecation of SSL certificates securing internal needs. With the SSL industry evolving at such a fast pace, there is no doubt that 2015 will be full of announcements.

Google announced on October 15th 2014 that they discovered an important vulnerability in the protocol SSL 3.0, more specifically in a feature called POODLE (Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption). This vulnerability could (for example) allow someone with malicious intentions to decrypt cookies which are normally sent over a secure connection.
